02 / THE PEOPLE MAKE THE SEASON
IN THE LOCKER ROOMCONRAD BRANTLEY / PLAYER
“Somebody’s been training it on our footage.”
Conrad and Fredrick have found an AI coach on StickyTack, a video-based social media platform. Its advice? Establish dominance through “sustained eyebrow contact.” Naturally, they have thoughts about your eyebrows.
Do you enjoy the joke, ask them to explain it, or make a ridiculous reciprocal wager? Knowing when to join in is part of knowing your team.

CONRAD BRANTLEY & FREDRICK NORRIS
After the hockey review, Conrad Brantley and Fredrick Norris linger in the lounge. Fredrick tilts his phone toward you. It is a clip on StickyTack, a video-based social media platform where people share short videos. An AI-generated hockey coach tells his team to “establish dominance through sustained eyebrow contact.” Fredrick pauses it beside a photograph of you. “Somebody’s been training it on our footage.”
Conrad follows AI experts on StickyTack and keeps all the major AI apps on his phone, tablet and laptop. “The interesting part is where it gets things wrong,” he says.
“The eyebrows are pretty good,” Fredrick replies.
You raise one. He points triumphantly at the screen. “Live demonstration.”

LUCY MANALO / THE RUSH LINE
Lucy Manalo waits until the last question about the score has ended. She sets her recorder where you can both see it. “I want to ask about protection. Should a player feel safe making an honest mistake on your team?”
She lets the question stand before continuing. “And how does he know that protection belongs to everyone—not just the players you can’t afford to lose?”
A chair stops scraping behind her. “I’m not asking you to discuss a private conversation. I’m asking what a player with less power can count on.”
